Maths Without Worksheets
The learning opportunities within this resource are inspirational and fun. They reflect the natural curiosity of the young learner and through quick and easy to use activity plans this book offers children the chance to learn through doing.
Not only do the activities encompass mathematical skills, they develop and enhance a multitude of cross-curricular learning. The imaginative ideas encourage involvement and develop competence through stimulating the mind in active ways. The children have enjoyed learning about numbers and mathematical concepts by engaging in the visual, auditory and kinaesthetic aspects of each activity.
As a practitioner I have found it fun and innovative. Having used the ‘Naughty Numbers’ activity I was encouraged by the children’s desire to learn about numbers in a different way. I found it inspirational, as I began to adapt the activity to further extend and support individual learning.
The wonderful ideas are versatile and stimulating for both practitioner and child. They encourage children to think and develop ideas which can be achieved instantly. They support practitioners in their planning through available stepping stones and cross-curricular links.
Ultimately, this book is full of fun easy-to-do, accessible activities that effectively enhance early learning. Melissa Evans, The Hawthorns School, Surrey
